Robert Wilson’s New York offices and archive were forced to move from a space they had occupied for many years at short notice. The entire project had to be designed and built in 2 months, on a tight budget. The timetable was met by phasing the most important parts of the design for the move-in (the cabinetry was put in first, non-dust producing materials, eg glass panels, last). Costs were kept low by re-using as much as possible from the previous space-- glass shelves, shelf standards — and by re-positioning the existing lighting in the new space, using as few new fixtures as possible.
