An existing ranch house in Southampton, NY, was completely renovated with two additions. The design takes advantage of the steeply sloping site by using large windows to open the house up to the landscape. A new master bedroom suite is cantilevered over its foundation walls to dramatize the views out of the corner windows. The entire house is liberated from its previous compartmental setup to create an open plan kitchen, dining room and living room space. Spaces under the new additions have cathedral ceilings, which will help keep the space cool in the summer with the cross ventilation created by placement of the new windows throughout the house.
